The Southern Provincial Irrigation Department (SPID) operates through a structured hierarchy to ensure efficient management of irrigation systems. At the core of our field operations are the District Irrigation Offices, led by District Engineers. These offices are crucial for implementing projects, managing water resources, and providing essential services at the local level across the Southern Province.

Galle District Overview

The activities of the Irrigation Department in the Galle District are controlled under a District Irrigation Engineer. The irrigation systems such as tanks, canals, anicuts and water bubbles are managed by a technical staff under the administration of an Irrigation Engineer. This will provide an efficient and effective service to the farming community by carrying out the operations and maintenance work of the Irrigation Department.
The Galle District Irrigation Engineering Office maintains 612 canals, 04 tanks, 72 anicut and 23 water bubbles belonging to the Galle District.

Matara District Overview

The activities of the Irrigation Department in the Matara District are controlled under a District Irrigation Engineer. The irrigation systems such as tanks, canals, anicuts and water bubbles are managed by a technical staff under the administration of an Irrigation Engineer. This will provide an efficient and effective service to the farming community by carrying out the operations and maintenance work of the Irrigation Department.
The Matara District Irrigation Engineering Office maintains 705 canals, 29 tanks, 231 anicut and 53 water bubbles belonging to the Matara District.

The activities of the Irrigation Department in the Hambantota District are controlled under a District Irrigation Engineer. The irrigation systems such as tanks, canals, anicuts and water bubbles are managed by a technical staff under the administration of an Irrigation Engineer. This will provide an efficient and effective service to the farming community by carrying out the operations and maintenance work of the Irrigation Department.
The Hambantota District Irrigation Engineering Office maintains 872 tanks, 86 anicuts and 26 water bubbles belonging to the Hambantota District. .
