Renovation of Ilwaththa Anicut Commences to Secure Regional Agriculture
Construction and rehabilitation work have officially begun on the Ilwaththa Anicut, an essential irrigation infrastructure that had fallen into a severely dilapidated state after years.

With an allocated budget of Rs. 594.3 million, the multi-phase project aims to complete full restoration within 20 months. Once finished, it will restore stable water diversion capabilities to surrounding farmlands, providing a long-awaited boost to local agricultural productivity and climate resilience. In addition to that, it will provide villages in the surrounding area with clean drinking water.
